Power control methods and characteristics of a welding machine

As a crucial processing technology in mechanical manufacturing, according to statistics from developed industrial countries, steel used annually for manufacturing welded structures accounts for approximately 70% of total steel production. Submerged arc automatic welding is a welding method generally used for welding large-diameter pipelines, containers, oil tanks, inner and outer longitudinal (circumferential) seams of boilers, and various deep-groove butt welds. It is a highly efficient welding method widely used in the mechanical manufacturing industry. Through careful study of each component of the submerged arc automatic welding system, and based on customer's technical requirements, a programmable logic controller (PLC)-based automatic control system for pipe welding machines was designed using the Siemens S7-200 PLC system. The electrical automatic control part of a cantilever single-head submerged arc automatic welding machine was successfully retrofitted. Finally, through debugging, the retrofitted system met the user's technical requirements.

The electrical automatic control part of a cantilever single-head submerged arc automatic welding machine was successfully modified, and finally, through debugging, the modified system met the technical requirements put forward by the user.

Firstly, the basic principles of welding were studied, including the thermal effect, electrical effect, electrical characteristics of the arc, and welding power supply control methods and characteristics. Secondly, the principles and methods of submerged arc welding, the general structure of conventional submerged arc welding machines, mechanical components, and electrical parameters such as drive motors and wire feeding mechanisms were studied.
As a control system, the control algorithm is its soul. After detailed research on a large number of submerged arc automatic welding machine electrical control systems, the approach of using discrete components or integrated circuits to form the control core, which is widely used in China, was abandoned. By leveraging the advantages of PLC's flexible software programming, the welding current closed-loop control algorithm was implemented using the general instructions of the PLC.
